About the Artist.

All that I know about painting comes from experience. I am completely self-taught. My teachers have been common sence, imaganation and the system of trial and error, more error than trial. Learning the hard way is the best teacher. Learning about art is a lifelong occupation, I never get to a point where I know enough. Have I figured it all out? No. I can’t say I ever will, as there will always be more to know. Somehow realising I will always be a student, every time I stand before the easel it is a new challenge, a new teacher. John Eardley’ s dictum that ‘ Painting is like breathing - you have to do it’ is the ruling precept of my life!


About the Paintings.

His stunning contemporary nudes and female figures are painted exclusively in oils, and many of his techniques and methods are classical in execution. He would discribe himself as a contemporary realist.

His detailed figures are placed against bold blocks of colour set at interesting planes and angles, which introduces a feeling of energy and warmth. While his compositions are clearly contemporary in style, they are firmly rooted in the rich tradition of European figurative painting. His fascination with this genre has led him to cite a range of influences, from the beautiful dancers of Edgar Degas to the formal elegance of John Singer Sargent's portraits.

There is a gentle beauty in these unguarded moments almost as if we have just come upon her, the woman is perhaps as yet unaware of our presence. There is a palpable mystery about her. Her face, her thoughts, even her time frame are questions that will remain unanswered, yet her allure and natural beauty will never diminish.

His most notable qualities as a figure painter lie in his ability to penetrate beyond surfaces, and paint in depths. This honorable characteristic of his work provides full-bodied and softly curved women in their most intimate states.
